Hi there,
This issue's scam: the friendly wrong number
It starts with "Hi, is this Jenny? Are we still on for dinner?" You reply that it's the wrong number. They apologize, and keep chatting. Over days or weeks the new "friend" mentions how well they're doing with a crypto trading app, and offers to show you how.
The app shows impressive gains. Withdrawing is where it falls apart: suddenly there are "taxes" or "fees" to pay first. The money was never invested. More in Investment and crypto scams.
A ten-minute security step
Turn on two-step login for your email account. Your email can reset almost every other password you have, so it's the one to protect first. See Passwords and two-step login, made simple.
Reader question
"My bank called about fraud on my card. How do I know it was really them?" You don't, from caller ID alone. Hang up and call the number on the back of your card. A real fraud team will be glad you did.
Stay sharp,
