Passwords and two-step login, made simple
Unique passwords plus a second step stop most account takeovers.
Most hacked accounts are opened with stolen or reused passwords. Two habits block most of that.
Habit 1: a different password everywhere
- Use a password manager, or a long passphrase of several random words
- Start with the most important: email, bank, phone carrier
- Never reuse your email password anywhere else
Habit 2: turn on two-step login
- An authenticator app or security key is strongest; text codes are still much better than nothing
- Turn it on for email first, because email resets everything else
Never share a code
A one-time code is a key to your account. No real company will call or text asking you to read one back.
